Hipsters Need Craft Fairs Too...

Today, Coco and I spent a lovely morning  hitting the traditional holiday craft shows around town (the girl scouts, the senior citizens, etc.) with my Mom, Auntie Terri and Uncle Melvin.  What a gorgeous Saturday in December!   We sipped coffee, sampled cookies, and filled our bags with little trinkets.

When Joe got off of work, we took a little afternoon jaunt to The D for Handmade Detroit's "Detroit Urban Craft Fair."  We found ourselves at the beautiful Masonic Temple.  Joe couldn't stop saying loudly, "Coco, daddy used to play music shows here!"...he thought he was so cool.

He was however, one of the least cool people at the craft show (you heard me right).

We were surrounded by hipsters.  When did we become so un-hip, and when did these people take over Detroit?  Don't get me wrong, I loved it - every minute of it.  I wanted into their club, bad.  I was wishing that we had dressed more hip, that Joe's hair looked more hip, and most importantly, for the love of God, that Joe had better manicured facial hair!

There were DJ's spinning vinyl.  The lights were dim so everyone looked cooler (which in reality just led to me getting a headache from squinting to see things).  There were handsome men with perfectly coiffed hair and perfectly manicured curly ended handlebar mustaches selling bow ties.  There were fancy companies like "Detroit Denim" (I love the way that sounds!), and mousy little girls hiding being their indie art prints.  And, there were mustache crafts.  Leather mustaches, wooden carved mustaches, mustache onesies, mustache everything.  It was awesome.  I scored some lovely Christmas gifts which I can't show you because they might be for you silly!

If you are free on Sunday, it is worth a trip...as is Detroit in general.  Go have lunch, stroll the river walk, hit the thrift scene.  Enjoy it, because Detroit is the next Detroit (see below ;).  (hipsters!  God love em' and their quirky sayings!)

It was so damn dark in there it was really hard to take pictures!

Embroidery is the new "it" craft, and it ain't cheap yo!

...and how cute is she?

Moving on....we present for your enjoyment the 25 Days of Christmas Carols blog spectacular!!!

Day #1 - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  As Coco will tell you, this one took 1,100 takes because we have colds.  They will get better ;).

xoxo, e.
